Lesson 3.1.2 · Romance, pareja y pasión

💞 Romance & Relationships

Beyond the basic besos, Colombian Spanish offers a rich vocabulary for affection, attraction, and commitment. From the casual mi amor at the panadería to enamorarse hasta los huesos, these are the words that color real relationships.

Sub-lessons

Break this lesson into focused chunks. Each sub-lesson has its own Memory Lab — active recall, mnemonics, elaboration, interleaved review, and shadowing — scoped to just those words.

01

Affection & terms of endearment

Colombians sprinkle endearments through ordinary conversation — even a cashier might call you mi amor or mi vida. These aren't flirty by default; they're warmth.

mi amor[mee ah-MOR]

my love

Used by partners, parents, and friendly shopkeepers alike.

mi vida[mee BEE-dah]

my life (term of endearment)

el cariño[el kah-REE-nyoh]

Un abrazo — a warm sign-off.

I love you (everyday)

Te amo[teh AH-moh]

I love you (deep / romantic)

adorar[ah-doh-RAR]

to adore

Te adoro — even stronger than amar in casual use.
