Lesson 13.1.24 · Departamento del Quindío

🌴 Department of Quindío

Quindío is the postcard of the Eje Cafetero — green hills, wax palms, coffee farms turned boutique hotels, and the smallest department on Colombia's mainland.

Sub-lessons

Break this lesson into focused chunks. Each sub-lesson has its own Memory Lab — active recall, mnemonics, elaboration, interleaved review, and shadowing — scoped to just those words.

01

The Basics

Capital: Armenia. 12 municipalities. ~580,000 people in just 1,845 km². Densest department after the capital district.

History

Founded by Antioquian colonizers around 1840. Armenia incorporated 1889. Department spun off from Caldas in 1966. The 1999 Armenia earthquake (6.2) killed 1,000+ and reshaped the city; recovery built today's tourism economy.

MEM

Memory lab

Five research-backed techniques — active recall, mnemonics, elaboration, interleaving, and production — applied to this lesson's vocabulary. Your progress trains a spaced-repetition schedule under the hood.

Force the answer from memory before peeking. The struggle is the workout — that's the testing effect.
