Lesson 12.1.25 · La Ciudad Industrial del Valle
🏭 Itagüí
Antioquia, just south of Medellín. About 280,000 people. Tiny in area, dense in factories — the most industrialized city in the country per square kilometer.
Sub-lessons
Break this lesson into focused chunks. Each sub-lesson has its own Memory Lab — active recall, mnemonics, elaboration, interleaved review, and shadowing — scoped to just those words.
The Basics
1,550 m above sea level, mild (17–24 °C). Locals are itagüiseños. The city is part of the Aburrá Valley and connected to Medellín by Metro.

History
Founded in 1743 as San Lorenzo de Aburrá. Stayed a small farming town until the 20th-century industrial wave, when textile, food, and metalworking factories made it Antioquia's manufacturing engine.

Geography & Climate
Compact (only 21 km²), almost entirely urban, surrounded by Aburrá Valley hills. Same eternal-spring climate as Medellín. Air quality issues during dry-season inversions.

Food
Pure Paisa table — bandeja, frijoles, sancocho — plus an outsized number of fondas (Paisa taverns) per block. Many of Medellín's famous chorizo joints actually live here.

Identity
Itagüiseños are working-class Paisas, proud of building things — with hands or with machines. The Itagüí soccer team (formerly Águilas Doradas) is the city's outsized claim to national fame.

Memory lab
Five research-backed techniques — active recall, mnemonics, elaboration, interleaving, and production — applied to this lesson's vocabulary. Your progress trains a spaced-repetition schedule under the hood.
Force the answer from memory before peeking. The struggle is the workout — that's the testing effect.
