Lesson 13.1.16 · Departamento del Guaviare

🦜 Department of Guaviare

Guaviare bridges the Llanos and the Amazon — savanna giving way to rainforest, with rock paintings 12,000 years old at Cerro Azul that are rewriting Pleistocene archaeology.

Sub-lessons

Break this lesson into focused chunks. Each sub-lesson has its own Memory Lab — active recall, mnemonics, elaboration, interleaved review, and shadowing — scoped to just those words.

01

The Basics

Capital: San José del Guaviare. 4 municipalities. ~85,000 people. Created from Vaupés in 1991 after long FARC influence; now opening to ecotourism.

02

History

Pre-ceramic hunter-gatherers painted the cliffs of Cerro Azul during the late Pleistocene. Modern colonization came late (1930s+), tied to coca economies, then conflict. Post-2016 peace accord opened the door to community tourism.

03

Geography

Flat to gently rolling, hot (25–32 °C). Granite outcrops (lajas) of the Guayana Shield poke through. The Guaviare and Inírida rivers anchor life. Forests range from gallery to dense jungle.

MEM

Memory lab

Five research-backed techniques — active recall, mnemonics, elaboration, interleaving, and production — applied to this lesson's vocabulary. Your progress trains a spaced-repetition schedule under the hood.

Force the answer from memory before peeking. The struggle is the workout — that's the testing effect.
