Lesson 13.1.6 · Departamento de Boyacá

Department of Boyacá

Boyacá is colonial Colombia frozen in cobblestone — high green Andean valleys, whitewashed villages, the country's oldest universities, and the battlefield where independence was won in 1819.

Sub-lessons

Break this lesson into focused chunks. Each sub-lesson has its own Memory Lab — active recall, mnemonics, elaboration, interleaved review, and shadowing — scoped to just those words.

01

The Basics

Capital: Tunja. 123 municipalities, more than any other department. ~1.2 million people. Northeast of Bogotá in the Cordillera Oriental.

Identity

Boyacenses speak slowly, use sumercé (your grace) instead of tú/usted — a holdover from colonial deference. Famously hard-working, religious, and modest. Los carrangueros (Velosa y los Carrangueros) sing rural humor.

MEM

Memory lab

Five research-backed techniques — active recall, mnemonics, elaboration, interleaving, and production — applied to this lesson's vocabulary. Your progress trains a spaced-repetition schedule under the hood.

Force the answer from memory before peeking. The struggle is the workout — that's the testing effect.
